Rail track surrounded by trees

The Story

The idea is born: It has been clear since the last century that global warming is a real phenomenon.  And, the likelihood is that it is at least partly man made.  In 2005 while visiting Cranfield University I came across a unique concept of a dual fuelling technology.  Professor Doug Greenhalgh (Chair of IEA clean combustion committee) said he thought it was one of the smartest ideas he had come across.

And raised: As a result, we got a local grant to build the first ‘optimiser’.  That was in 2008, when we won the Shell Springboard Award.  In 2009 we were taken into the Carbon Trust Fast track scheme, under the care of Carbon Limiting Technologies.  In 2010-2011-2012 we were invested by Finance Wales, alongside some business angels.  In 2011 we were selected by MAN for use in LPG/diesel trials, only for the company to cease all LPG work.  As a result we moved to diesel/Natural Gas.

And grows up: As well as shareholders, G-volution has been hugely supported by a number of carbon trust and innovate UK grants allowing development of both the control system and unique emissions technology.  As a result of this development work, G-volution was able to initially deliver its product into the UK Heavy Good Vehicle (HGV) sector as a pioneer of dual fuel. In the early days G-volution supplied many UK and European HGV operators with duel fuel Diesel/LPG conversions. This was followed by dual fuel Diesel/Natural Gas (LNG) conversions, one major UK customer in particular doubled its revenue due to its green credentials.

More recently G-volution has replicated this pioneering approach in the UK and worldwide rail sectors, namely;

The US rail business: with dual fuel diesel CNG for locomotives in the USA with Indiana Harbour Belt Railroad Company.
The UK rail business:  with dual fuel diesel LNG passenger trains in the UK with Grand Central Railways and dual fuel diesel bio-LPG freight locomotives with Network Rail and Colas – both of these products are world firsts
The UK rail business:  with hydrocarbon flexible fuel cell technology deployed on rail vehicles in 2021
R&D:  research and development work on diesel, hydrogen with methane and Bio LPG for various applications in UK/EU
R&D:  research and development technology to address methane slip and related issues

G-volution is now the leading dual fuel technology business in the UK, and is expanding in partnership with customers and local distributors into Europe, Asia and beyond.
